Hey there, wonderful backers!
It's almost time! Sacrimony #5 goes live next week on October 24, 10AM EST! Are you excited!? Because I'm super excited!
Issue #5 holds a special place in my heart because it wraps up the first story arc of the series. It seems like just yesterday, I was a nervous baby comic maker, kickstarting Issue #1 and now I'm a... nervous veteran kickstarting Issue #5. This whole journey has been unbelievable and I can't thank you enough for being a part of it and making it happen in the first place.
The Sacrimony #5 campaign has already blasted through the 100 follower mark, which means that a bonus sticker for all physical backers and bonus wallpaper for digital backers has been unlocked!
If we can get to 125 followers before the campaign begins, that sticker gets a holographic upgrade, because holographic stickers are awesome!
If you've already followed the campaign, thank you so much! if you haven't yet followed it, you can do so here!
Let's try to make it the biggest launch possible so we can unlock more amazing goodies along the way!
Thank you so much for your support!
See you on Monday!

They Love Me!!

Hey there, wonderful backers! Check this out!
For the FIFTH time in a row, Sacrimony is a "Project We Love" on Kickstarter. That means that since Sacrimony #1 went live back in March 2, 2021, I've received the title for every campaign that has been run (Sacrimony #1, 2, 3, 4 and now the reprint). That's unbelievable and words can't express how honored I am.
Comics can be fun stories and great escapism, but creating a quality comic is very important to me. And I don't mean on the level of "lol tee hee I guess I'm just a perfectionist" but more of like "I have a responsibility to others to make the best possible comic that I can." And I don't just mean a responsibility to readers, but a responsibility to other creators of color, especially women and LGBTQ creators of color.
If you've seen my face on my Kickstarter videos, you'll see that it's not a face that's automatically associated when the words "comic creator", "comic writer" or "comic artist" come up. Seriously, go click the video and watch it. I'll wait.
Done? Alright, cool.
In the entertainment world, anything outside of the status quo is treated as "different" and also as some sort of monolith. For example movie studios held off on making a superhero movie with a female lead for a ridiculously long time because Halle Berry's Catwoman was atrocious. Similarly, I don't want a creator of color to not be taken seriously because Sacrimony was created by a queer person of color and was somehow lacking in professional quality standards.
I know it seems like a huge responsibility to take on, but it's something I can't not think about. While I don't care if people are still reading Sacrimony 100 years from now, I do hope that enough people of color would have been given the chance to create their own amazing stories to the point where it's finally considered 'normal.' We're still not at that point.
Right now, people still consider Sacrimony to be a "brown people fantasy" story and not just a regular old fantasy story alongside things like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, and my hope is that one day the color of a creator's skin or their orientation won't matter anymore and we can all be lumped together in the same category without feeling like we don't belong there.
So every time, Sacrimony gets a little praise here and there, I don't consider it to be a personal win, but a win for creators of color everywhere.
Thanks so much for reading this and thanks so much for supporting Sacrimony.
