Happy Monday, you wonderful people <3
I've been doing a lot of talking about Sacrimony last week and I'm going to be doing even more talking this week! If you missed out on any of the interviews, you can find them here:
On Isekai, I talked with Bitsy Tandem of Maiden in Disguise (please go back her Kickstarter) about world-building. Having a unique world is one of the main features of Sacrimony and Bitsy asks me all the hard questions about how I decided to shape the world of Sacrimony as I saw fit! For those who are interested in learning more fun behind the scenes history things, you definitely don't want to miss this interview!
On Explain Yourself, I got to hang out with my awesome comics pals Kevin Joseph and Will Allred, as well as 3 other amazing creators. Explain Yourself highlights outstanding Kickstarter campaigns that are going on and it's always a treat to be on there. If you're interested in learning more about how I started Sacrimony and the struggles I faced along the way, you should check out my segment on Explain Yourself. And also definitely check out the other creators who are running some stellar campaigns right now!
I'll also be on Into The Comics Cave, but my interview won't be live until May 30. Check out the other creator interviews in the meanwhile!
Also, we're just four backers away from hitting this milestone and $101 away from hitting the $3000 mark! As always, if you know someone who might enjoy Sacrimony, please tell them about the campaign. Word of mouth is one of the most effective ways to get more eyes on this project.
Thanks so much for your support!

Also, here are some other great campaigns that you should check out!
A digital-first series about new vampire Mathilde as she seeks to regain autonomy and find direction in unlife through sexy adventures.
Usual Haunts is a digital-first nsfw, slice of life/romantic comedy comic series about vampires! It is 18+ and not for minors! Think a combination of What We Do In the Shadows crossed with erotic comics like Alfie, Sunstone, or Iron Circus’ Smut Peddler anthologies.
Mathilde is a newly transformed vampire re-entering society after having been held prisoner in a monstrous vampire’s underground lair for the last 14 years. The story follows Mathilde, rightfully pissed off and at a loss as to what to do with her newfound freedom, as she tries to find direction in un-life and gain a sense of bodily autonomy through sexy escapades. Mostly with Norman, a morally grey Nasty Man™ with weird uncle energy, loud shirts, and a lewd tongue.
Chapter 1 throws you right into the sexy thick of it as Mathilde and Norman have their first hook up.
A story of grim reapers, restoring balance to the world of the living, and the dead.
Lost Between Worlds is a story about grim reapers, tasked with collecting the souls of the dead on a daily basis, and taking them to the afterlife. It mainly centers on a grim reaper named Gwynn Ap Nudd, who has been tasked with collecting the soul of someone named Verda, but instead, meets a man named Dospe, who claims to have dissociative identity disorder.
After meeting him, Gwynn isn't sure if Dospe is telling the truth, or just trying to find a loophole and cheat death, so she returns home to ask her father a few questions. She learns more than just the answers to her questions however, she learns of an apocalypse that seems to be happening sooner, rather than later.
Gwynn returns back to the human world, finding the dead now walk among the living. Was this the apocalypse mentioned, or could something far worse lie in wait? Is Dospe still alive, or did he join the walking Dead? Will Gwynn discover what starts the apocalypse, and be able to save the world, or will the undead prove too much and take over the human world?
If you love series like Mr. Robot, Death note and Bleach, or movies like Split and Fight club, then this series should be right up your alley!
The Ancient Greek Mytholgy meets the Middle Ages in a dark fantasy manga.

It is a story that combines the mythology and the mentality of the society in Ancient Greece with the darkness and intolerance of the Middle Ages in Europe. In such an era the life of a young boy, called Ark Keanos, unfolds. Epic battles and countless overthrows will travel you to an imaginary, exciting world.
A Tale of Love, Life and... Horse??

Hi there, wonderful backers!
I wanted to share something that I thought was pretty great and also very hilarious and also share a bit of fun info with you!
The other day, I set up my TweetDeck to see who was posting about Sacrimony on Twitter so that I could reach out and thank them properly. On Friday, I happened to see that there was a race horse named Sacrimony that was kicking ass!
I kinda wanna print and frame this tweet for the lulz...
Now as cool as it would be to think that Sacrimony, the horse, was named after Sacrimony, my very fancy fantasy comic, it's much more likely that Sacrimony, the horse, was named after Sacrimony, the Kamelot song, of which Sacrimony, my comic is also named after!
You may be able to tell from my art aesthetic and storytelling style in general, I listen to a lot of metal. Or maybe you can't tell? I have no idea what people think of me but in the least, I hope that when someone looks at Sacrimony, they take a minute to go "Aw man, that's so metal!"
There's so much that I enjoy about the metal genre, aside from sick guitar solos. It's a broad genre with lots of different kinds of sounds and encompasses many themes about angels, devils, possession, the afterlife, the undead, mythology, religion, classic horror stories, urban legends, renowned warriors of real and fictional natures, love, forbidden love and so on. Lots of good stuff to help keep the rats in my head running extra hard on their lil wheels.
Music is great. Metal is great. It helps me focus.
One of my favorite bands ever is Kamelot (not to be confused with Camelot, which I hear is a silly place) because they gravitate towards dark, melodic, dramatic themes and sounds that stir some form of emotion within me. By emotion, I don't mean that I'm brought to tears. I mean awe-inspiring concepts and visuals that make me dream of becoming some sort of divine or unholy ruler that takes over the world and shapes it as I see fit. You know. Normal stuff.
Ahem.
I guess what I'm saying is that even though they portray all of these completely imaginary concepts, they still manage to activate real feelings within me. And that's what I love to do through my storytelling - I create imaginary characters in an imaginary world that make the reader, a real person, feel real feelings.
I have a confession: For the longest time, I found myself unable to pick a title for my comic because I couldn't think of anything that felt right. For a good 15+ years, I had just been referring to it as "The Comic" and that's it.
In 2012, Kamelot came out with this song called "Angel of Afterlife (Sacrimony)" and while it wasn't one of my favorite songs (it's not terrible, but I find it a bit repetitive and too similar to some of their other songs), a few years down the road, I revisited the song and the word "sacrimony" piqued my interest.
Sacrimony is a portmanteau of "sacrifice" and "ceremony." Urban Dictionary defines it as "An act of offering something precious or killing a victim without intrinsic purpose."It was too perfect. It summed up the entire story!
So after perusing the internet to make sure it somehow wasn't a word exclusive to Kamelot, I decided the official title of my comic would be "Sacrimony: A Tale of Love, Life and Death - In No Particular Order".
Originally, I was just going to go with "Sacrimony: A Tale of Love, Life and Death", but I added in the "In No Particular Order" part to be a bit cheeky and to get people's attention. And also because it just made so much sense.
So that is how The Comic got it's name!
Thank you so much for backing Sacrimony, the comic! Hope you found this tale interesting :D

Our Sacrimony #4 campaign is progressing nicely and we're getting close to the 100 backer mark. That means it's time to start talking about milestones.
We've got five complimentary comics from cool, caring creators! This milestone will automatically be available for backers via backers-only update once we hit the 100 backer mark.
If you've got a spare moment, please help spread the word about the campaign on social media. The more eyes we can get on the project, the more awesome bonuses we can unlock. Here are some handy-dandy shareable links.

It turns out that the Isekai interview is going to be at 7:30PM EST and my time converter didn't want to account for daylight savings. Because daylight savings is horrible.

Hey there, wonderful backers!
I woke up this morning to see that we've crossed the halfway mark! Yay! Thank you all so much. We've got a nice strong start and I'm going to do my best to keep the momentum rolling!
As always, if you can help share the campaign via these handy links on social media, I would greatly appreciate that. If we can get more eyes on the project, that means more funding, backers, stretch goals and milestones!
As I mentioned in a previous update, I wanted to take a moment to actually introduce myself!
I'm Matta Sorcier, and I do all of the writing, art, coloring, lettering, marketing, kickstarter campaign running, shipping and all the other stuff associated with Sacrimony. It's a tough job but I love it and I can't see myself living my life any other way.
I'm entirely self taught, which means I've never set foot in an art or writing school. I suppose it's cliche, but I've been drawing and making things up as soon as I was able to hold a pencil and form coherent words. I didn't actually know what to do with this ability as I had a lot of conflict growing up regarding going into a creative field. Doing anything creative was seen as 'wasteful' and 'childish' and hearing that over and over from family diminished my desire to tell stories for a living.
I lived a good 2/3 of my life in fear. "I can't make a comic. If I fail, I'm only going to prove them right that I wasted my life."I then proceeded to waste my life, squandering my 20's and early 30's by jumping from crappy minimum wage job to dead end internship to working in a jewelry sweatshop with nothing to show but permanent nerve damage to my left arm, aka: my drawing arm. Luckily, I'm stubborn and recovered somewhat and I still love to draw, but I remember to rest and take breaks when things get too bad.
Anyway, at the end of the day, I realized that working in low-paying jobs with abusive bosses and customers left me too tired to do anything creative and, let's face it, drawing and telling stories are the things that give me life.
In 2016, I decided to try my hand at making Sacrimony into a webcomic, but by that time, I was so out of practice and inexperienced that the comic wasn't that great. I tried printing and selling books once I had enough pages, but the response was pretty lukewarm. I knew I had to step it up somehow.
In 2020, I said "You know what? Fuck it, I'm doing the story over but better." People thought I was insane and I don't blame them. A lot of creators make the decision to reboot their comics over and over and over and get caught in the cycle of rebooting every few years until they just give up.
I knew I wasn't going to be one of those cases. First impressions matter and the first impression of those 2016 Sacrimony pages didn't reflect what I was capable of, they weren't going to get the average reader interested, nor were they professional quality. So with the pandemic going in 2020, I had shit else to do but to sit around inside and practice different techniques to get the pages to look the way I want.
I must have redone the first 8-10 pages of issue 1 at least 4 or 5 times over, trying to figure out how I wanted them to look. It was the most frustrating but worthwhile learning experience I've ever had.
I officially launched Sacrimony #1 in March of 2021 and it was a huge success. I got way more backers than I ever expected and the campaign raised way more than I ever expected. It was a good surprise. From there, things only got better with the Sacrimony 2 and 3 campaigns and here we are with #4, which is definitely turning out to be the biggest Sacrimony campaign yet.
If you'd like to get to know more about my creation process and what makes me tick, I'll be on two different shows this week.
Tonight at 6:30PM EST, I'll be on Isekai, hosted by Bitsy Tandem. We'll be talking about a topic that I happen to specialize in, which is worldbuilding. One of the first things people notice about Sacrimony is the amount of effort I put into making custom races, locations, languages and world history in general. If you're into that aspect of the story, you won't want to miss it!
